Aquatics
The strand units of the Aquatics curriculum include:
- Hygiene
- Water safety
- Entry to and exit from the water
- Buoyancy and propulsion
- Stroke development
- Water-based ball games
- Understanding and appreciation of aquatics
The aquatics programme is concerned with gaining competence and confidence near, in, under and on water. It provides unique opportunities for enjoyment, allowing the child the sensation of buoyancy. The concern for water safety permeates all aquatic activities and needs to be stressed throughout the programme.
All pupils are given the option to participate in swimming lessons in Tralee Sports Complex for a 6 week block in Term 1.
Land PAWS Water Safety Programme is also taught to specific class levels. A PAWS school visit workshop will take place for all classes in Term 3.
