We take part in lots of different activities to keep active in our school every day! We also participate in various initiatives, activities and challenges throughout the year to promote movement and physical activity! Take a look at some of the games, activities, challenges and initiatives we participate in to help keep us moving and having fun!
- Active Flag Committee – Our Active Flag Committee is made up of pupils from 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th class. The boys and girls are given various roles and tasks to carry out throughout the school year. Our pupils play a very important role in organising and delivering our Active Flag initiatives.
- Daily Mile - The Daily Mile is a social physical activity, with children running, wheeling or walking – at their own pace – in the fresh air with friends. Each day, every class goes outside to participate in the Daily Mile initiative during their timetabled time.
- Line Leaders/Playground Leaders - Two days a week, our Active School Committee members take on the role of Line Leaders where they keep the línes active while classes wait for their teacher to pick them up after yard time. 6th Class pupils are acting as Playground Leaders in the front yard, organising and playing yard games with Junior Infant, Senior Infant and 1st Class pupils.
- Active Breaks/Movement Breaks: All classes take part in active breaks throughout the school day. This includes Go-Noodle, Bizzy Breaks, Just Dance and a variety of classroom movement ideas. On a wet day, if pupils cannot go outside at break time, extra time will be given to movement breaks in the classroom.
- Lunchtime Leagues - we run various lunchtime leagues throughout the school year in soccer. Teams are made up of boys and girls from 3rd - 6th class and matches are played during lunchtime.
- Yard Games/Equipment: Various equipment is available to pupils who wish to play with is on the yard - hula hoops, skipping ropes, frisbees, Giant Connect 4, dominoes and various balls. We are also luck to have 4 sets of goals on our yards as well as a full sized outdoor basketball court.
- Active Calendar Events - We celebrate different active events throughout the school year – Halloween Hike, Christmas Disco, Walk a Mile with a Smile, Lá Glas, Easter Egg Hunts and lots more – the children really look forward to such events
- WOW Wall – This page on our website and Facebook page celebrates the fantastic achievements our pupils have achieved in the many and varied activities they get up to both outside of school and in school.
- Relay TakeOver - On September 27th we participated in the RelayTakeOver Day organised by the Active School Flag initiative. Each class went outside and had lots of fun while running in various relay races! We even watched the races of the European Women's and Mixed Relay Teams winning medals from last May!! Go Ireland!
- Active Slogan - Our Active School Flag Committee are running a whole school competition to pick our new Active School Slogan. Watch this space to see the winner!
- #ActiveBreaksChallenge24 - all classes participated in the Active Break Every Day challenge for four weeks beginning 18th November. Lots of fun was had trying out plenty of new movement break ideas. A padlet of resources is now available for movement breaks throughout the year!
