5th & 6th Meet Olympian Monika Dukarska

10th Feb 2025

We were thrilled to welcome Olympic rower Monika Dukarska to O’Brennan today! Originally from Poznań, Poland, and now living in Killorglin, Monika has been rowing since 2008 and is a proud member of Killorglin Rowing Club. She represented Ireland at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in the Women’s Pair alongside Aileen Crowley, after securing qualification at the 2019 World Rowing Championships in Linz. The pair also won silver at the Rowing World Cup II. A two-time World Coastal Champion in the women’s solo (2009 & 2016), Monika’s incredible achievements in rowing are truly inspiring.

During her visit, the children watched a PowerPoint on Monika’s journey as a rower and engaged in a lively Q&A session, gaining valuable insights into her life and career. One key message she highlighted was the "Iceberg Effect"—reminding us that behind every success is immense hard work, dedication, and perseverance, not just what is seen on social media or quick gratification.

A passionate advocate for both sport and education, Monika is currently pursuing a PhD in Education, having already earned a Master’s in Innovation and Design. We are so grateful to Monika for sharing her time, wisdom, and experiences with us today—thank you!
